Ambulatory Surgery Center Design

Ambulatory Surgery Center Design by Bernstein & Associates Architects

Healthcare Design News Release

Design of a new ambulatory surgery center is a new project underway at healthcare architecture firm Bernstein & Associates, Architects.

Ambulatory surgery centers are healthcare facilities, based outside of a hospital, usually owned by a physician’s group, where patients undergo surgical procedures which can be done on an outpatient basis, and do not require an overnight stay. However, ambulatory surgery centers are highly technical, highly regulated facilities, with many requirements and checkpoints to maximize patient safety.

The ambulatory surgery center program revolves around the operating rooms. There are Class A operating rooms, Class B operating rooms and Class C operating rooms --- each addressing different surgical parameters, and each involving different technical and regulatory requirements. Additional ASU program elements are the patient prep areas, patient recovery areas, clean utility, soiled utility, clinical staff support areas, patient support areas, and administrative support areas.

Healthcare architecture firm Bernstein & Associates Architects is approaching the design of this ambulatory surgery center with an eye towards patient safety, patient comfort, staff comfort and efficiency, and current ASU regulatory requirements. Additional areas the firm is focusing on are: flexibility, future growth, future changes in this area, security, and ergonomics.

Ambulatory surgery center design consulting services provided by Bernstein & Associates, Architects (www.bernarch.com) will address best practices in healthcare design, state of the art healthcare technology utilization, patient safety in a healthcare facility, and maximizing the efficiency of a state of the art outpatient healthcare practice.
